Problems cannot be solved by the level of awareness that created them."
Albert Einstein
The coaching relationship is an alliance. The coaching client sets forth an agenda, and the coach, lead by the client's values and priorities, supports the client in moving the agenda forward.
For clients, coaching is both an investment in and an appointment with themselves. Clients commit to, at minimum, a two-month contract. The average monthly fee ranges from $600 to $1,000, depending on the client's specific needs and presenting issues. The contract represents a client's personal commitment to self, as well as to the process
The relationship usually begins with an intake session, which may last up to two hours. The coach and client then establish a meeting schedule. The sessions can be face-to-face, by telephone or a combination of both. Some clients prefer weekly, one-hour appointments; others find that biweekly sessions work best. Sometimes I ask my clients to do homework assignments between sessions to allow for further reflection and learning.
Just as an athletic coach assesses an athlete's strengths and potential, so does a leadership/career coach assess a client's strengths and potential. The coach then supports the client to develop and define the resources found within and in the surrounding environment.
Like in athletics, the coach cannot carry the client to the finish line, to the goal line or to the hoop. However, with the coach's support and training, the client can find what is needed for a higher, more authentic and more satisfying performance level.
